From the web to the screens of the end users, the goal was to be able to present the most relevant pieces of info from the Internet, straight to the screen of end users when the creators of Google came up with the idea.
Behind the creation of a few search engines that are running today, were the very same principles.
Sure it's okay to optimize one's webpages in order to rank better when search engine results are obtained, once under the very rules of the search engine that is being used.
