Webage Design by Taswiz Interview

By Interviewer at 01/09/09 14:43

Name of your website?

Webage Design by Taswiz

Your name?

David Edwards

Your Location (city, etc)

Hobart

Please give us a short summary of your website?

TasWIZ is a Web Design Business and is predominantly focused on the design and production of both single web pages and full websites for the small to medium sized business market in and around the area of Hobart, Tasmania,. Our attention to detail and customer focus enables us to develop an affective and powerful web solution for your needs

What inspired you to launch your own website?

Having been in the industry on the mainland Tasmania for over twenty years but working for others, after moving to Tasmania it was time to start our own business.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

The first real website I had done was about fifteen years ago. It was a small college who are now very successful

How did you decide on a name for your website?

Everything in tasmania starts with a "tas". Well not quite everything but it is a big trend. I tried to get something like geek or nerd because when I am honest with myself... but found wizard was available. I settled pn wiz because it is shorter and there you go..."TasWIZ"

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

Oh, there are thousands apon thousands of webpage designers out there. Of course I am different, every artist is!

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

I have a large family, eleven children. u-huh! Anyway several of them are just like their dad, geeks. So we want to build a family business to be proud of that has a good and respected name.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Time, night, night wife, I will come to bed about 2pm sometime. At this stage time is what it is taking. But that is sometimes what it takes if you are dinkum to succeed.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

Advertising dollars would be good, an actual office instead of working in our house at home. We have five acres and are going to build me an office one day, but I insist it is built our of money coming from the business, and no loans. I believe we will get there fast or slow.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Absolutely. I have been in big business before and have looked after 103 staff before so I have a good idea as to just how things can go. My primary concern is that each and every job is done to the satisfaction of our clients, that would have to be cared for.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

So far I have been fairly acurate and we havn't had any unexpected blowouts, but hey, it happens.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Waiting. I like things to happen fast. We have only been open for business a month now so I shouldn't grumble. We have done two sites so far and managed to get our own site up to the second page in Google. No easy thing considering we are competing against 504000 other websites under that search term

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Word of mouth, and doing what we do. Because we are climbing the search ranks we are getting noticed. we have already begun to make sales such as domain names an hosting packages.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

I thought I would have competition from mainlanders but as it turns out there are plenty of cool designes here in Tasmainia as well. The word competition isn't fair in Tasmania either as there is a real sense of comunity and they all work well together!

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

Websites are an ongoing labour of love. The minute you take your eye of the ball, they stop doing what you expect of them. Sometimes they continue to grow but usually they just slide down the ranks. You are what you eat and you website is what you put into it!

So what is next, where will you go from here?

TasWIZ is growing quickly. Primarily because we care about our visitors, but also because people realise we do know what we are doing and decide to have a partner in their website who will make things happen. I know it will grow, adapt and continue to grow...

What is your website address?
